Where are you right now?
No, I don’t mean your location; where are you – emotionally, physically, relationally and spiritually?
Are you stuck somewhere?
How is your relationship with your body, with your appearance, with your family, with the men in your life – and with God?
Flourishing? Or not so much?
If you’re anywhere close to where I was a few years ago, you feel stuck, stuck, stuck!
A few years ago, I came to a total crisis point. I had had it with culture, had it with myself, had it with the incredibly depressing view of life I’d adopted after years of watching suffering and all the havoc wreaked by sin.
I loved God with all my heart. But I had come to be pretty sure that life down here was destined to be miserable.
I was miserable in my body. I was unhappy with the way I looked.
I had vowed to never get married because relationships didn’t seem trustworthy and marriage seemed like a trap.
Somewhere in there I went to Paris. I sat down on a bench next to the Arc de Triomphe, and wrote a list of the things I still cared about into a little notebook.
It was heinously short. I felt like the walking dead.
I came to a decision point. I was either going to believe God’s design was safe, right, life-giving and freeing, or I was going to just go my own way, ‘do my best,’ and figure it out as I went.
I chose option 1. And that, as they say, has made all the difference. 🙂
What about you?
Are you sick of the apparent ‘great divide’ between caring about your body, your appearance, your dating life – and what you’re ‘supposed’ to care about as a girl of God?
Are you done with everybody screaming in your ear – secular culture, Christian culture, your family and friends advising you out of a wide range of their own hurts and biases – and all of your failed or short-lived (maybe even damaging) attempts to escape the pressure and the pain?
Are you tired of the cycle of self-denial, self-indulgence, and self-loathing in how you treat your body?
Are you torn between wanting to be beautiful, but worrying that no one will ever think you are, and feeling like you’re a sell-out if you try to imitate the cultural ‘standards’?
And…guys? Need we even go there?!
Is it worth discovering what God’s plan for these areas really is and then trying to live by it? (And what is it anyway?!)
Because there really is a way to be happy, free, and living with a deep sense of peace and joy that transcends what many people can even understand, no matter what you’ve seen or come to assume. When I realized this, the whole world opened up!
I think this is possible no matter who or where you are: you can feel well in your body, and at peace with it.
You can love the way you look and use your beauty for powerful good in the world in a way that leads people to God.
And you can be healed of the relationship hurts that you have seen or accumulated that have left you scared, bitter, or biased.
You can be free.
What do you need?
1. You need to know the truth. You need to know it intellectually and on a heart level.
2. You need to learn how to actually live out the truth in your daily life.
3. You need to be freed from the lies that have wounded you and ensnared you.
4. You need to start now, because life abundant is waiting and there is a whole world full of people waiting to be inspired and encouraged by your joyfulness and radiance!
Does that sound good to you? Ready to shine?
Then come on, Beautiful! Don’t waste another day! Let’s get started!!
